DBM Commences Budget Data Analytics Project with Aboitiz Data Innovation

In a pioneering partnership, the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) is teaming up with Aboitiz Data Innovation (ADI), ushering data-driven insights for effective governance. The partnership aims to harness the power of data science services, leveraging cloud platforms and cutting-edge analytics tools.

“Collaborating with ADI, our project is poised to guide decision-making processes effectively,” says Undersecretary Maria Francesca M. Del Rosario, Functional Group Head of the Information and Communications Technology Group and Chief Information Officer of DBM. “Together, we are paving a future where data is not just information but a powerful tool for informed and strategic governance.”

Focused on overcoming challenges in visualizing data from diverse sources, the project is set to develop dynamic dashboards and visualizations tailored to support DBM’s comprehensive budget planning, execution, monitoring, and evaluation processes. Furthermore, these tools are laying the groundwork for future predictive analytics use cases.

In the stakeholder presentation held on November 22, 2023 at F1 Hotel Manila, ADI showcased the following dashboards:

  • 8-point Socioeconomic Agenda and Classification of the Functions of Government (COFOG) – showcases the different budget allocations from each respective department and agency with respect to each expense class
  • Inflation for Food and Non-Food – monitors the inflation rate for different commodities across different regions and provides the inflation rate for year-on-year and on a month-on-month basis; This dashboard will also feature a market outlook forecast and various details for risk and interventions.
  • National Expenditure Programs (NEP) – will showcase the comparison of budget allocation yearly, by department, agency, operating until, region, and fund category, with respect to each expense class
  • Government-Owned and Controlled Corporations (GOCCs) – will convey a 10-year trend for budget management based on DBM’s financial statements and monitor the performances of different departments with regards to budget sources
