Aboitiz Data Innovation Appoints New Principal to Power Cleaner Energy and Increase its Accessibility across APAC

Ex-APAC Managing Director of Element AI joins ADI to accelerate the progress of DSAI solutions for Power in the region.

Singapore, 27 October 2021 – Today, Aboitiz Data Innovation (ADI) officially announced the appointment of prominent AI specialist Luis Gonzalez to the role of Principal, Data Science & AI (Power Industry). Luis will play a key part in advancing ADI’s mission to improve lives through data science and AI (DSAI), by leading the organization’s strategic initiatives in Power.

Prior to his appointment, Luis worked with ADI as a data science advisor for the power industry. In a full-time capacity, he will be responsible for leading ADI’s development strategy for DSAI solutions for power
businesses in distribution and generation, with a focus on emissions reduction, operational efficiency and safety.

Luis was formerly APAC Executive Managing Director of Element AI, a Canadian startup co-founded in 2016 by Yoshua Bengio, the pioneer of deep learning and winner of the Turing award. Element raised over US$100 million in Series A funding to open a Southeast Asia hub in Singapore in 2017. Luis also had a stint at GE Power as APAC VP-Chief Digital Officer. He is co-founder of the AI Asia Pacific Institute, a non-profit research body for the Ethical Deployment of Learning Algorithms in society. He earned his postgraduate diplomas in industrial IOT, machine learning and deep learning from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
